Savon Golf Classic Follow-up

Coyote Lakes

What a Hit!

Savon‘s Second Annual Charity Golf Classic was held on Saturday, April 25th and was a HUGE success!

This event was held to benefit the Salvation Army‘s Inner City Youth Programs, and with the help of  our sponsors, our donators, players, and volunteers, together we raised $2,500!

Representatives from the Salvation Army who attended the tournament were extremely impressed with the turnout  and were glad to see everyone having so much fun for their benefit.

Thank you to all of our players and volunteers, without you, this event wouldn‘t have been possible! We are looking forward to seeing each of you again next year!

Chairside Chat with Dawn Lawler:

Dawn Lawler

What?  X-rays again?

Hello everyone!  I‘d like to take a moment to introduce myself!  I‘m Dawn Lawler, Savon Dental Plan‘s resident Dental Consultant.  I have over 17 years experience in the dental industry, with over 12 years of chairside and operatory experience.  I have an unyielding passion for dentistry that fuels my career and satisfies my purpose in the dental field.  With that said, please have a seat and let‘s chat!

This month‘s topic is by far one of the most frequently asked questions I have encountered.  “Do I need x-rays every time I come in for a check up?”  My response, “Depends”.  Bear with me here and I‘ll explain.

In most cases a dentist will require that every patient, regardless of the state of their dental health, undergo a complete set of x-rays or a panoramic x-ray once every 3 to 5 years.  Patients with relatively healthy teeth and gums are usually x-rayed with supplemental films (i.e., bitewing and/or periapicle x-rays) minimally, once a year in between complete sets.  Patients who are prone to gum disease, bone loss, multiple caries (cavities), or have specific teeth and restorations the dentist may be watching, may be x-rayed on a more frequent basis coinciding with their 3,4, or 6 month check ups.

So you may not need films every visit, but know that they will be coming.  Although they may be dreaded, these films help your dentist keep tabs on your dental needs and help you maintain your dental health!  Remember that your dental health starts with YOU!

To your health:
"Swine" Flu

With all the media coverage on the H1N1 (Swine) Flu virus, we at Savon thought it would be a great time to offer information about the virus to you and your family.  All information supplied can be found on the CDC (Center for Disease Control) web site or follow the links below.

The CDC has determined the H1N1 (Swine) virus as “a flu like virus that is spread by human to human contact.”  This virus is NOT contracted by the consumption of pork or food.  Symptoms of the virus include but are not limited to: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and in some cases diarrhea and vomiting.  It‘s recommended that if you show persistent signs of any of these symptoms that you contact your family physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

The CDC also offers these helpful tips to avoid catching the virus.

  • Make sure you cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing and coughing and discard the tissue immediately after.

  • Wash hands with soap and water, especially after sneezing and coughing, or contact with another sick person.

  • Use of alcohol based hand sanitizer also cut down the amount of germs spread in person to person contact.

  • Attempt to avoid contact with people who show signs of the virus or have been diagnosed with the virus.
You can find more valuable information about the H1N1 flu virus at Center for Disease Control and helpful Q&A's about this virus

Here‘s to a happy and healthy summer!

A question from a member:

Question:

How do I know, for sure, that I‘m getting my Savon discount?

Savon's Answer:

Savon provides every member with a copy of our Schedule of Fees and Benefits.  This fee schedule is the same exact one that your dentist charges by.  Unfortunately, mistakes do happen, which is why it‘s important to check your dental charges against your fee schedule.  If you think you have been over charged, call Savon immediately and we will help you sort it out.

If you have an old fee schedule or don‘t have a copy at all, simply call us at 1-800-809-3494 and we‘ll mail you one, or you can visit our website for the most current copy.  If you are having trouble understanding the fee schedule, feel free to contact us and a representative will assist you.
